Laredo Chamber of Commerce Position Papers

Resolution Border Patrol 2007
Resolution in Support of the Mission and Work of the U.S. Border Patrol
in the Laredo Area
(D   R   A   F   T)

Whereas, the mission of the Laredo Chamber of Commerce is in part “to … protect the business, tourism, industry and educational interests of the Laredo metropolitan area…”

Whereas, citizens of the United States living in the area of the U.S.-Mexico border recognize the need for increased security measures following the attack of September 11, 2001, on the World Trade Center towers in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, DC;

Whereas, the U.S. Border Patrol provides the first line of defense for the detention and prevention of the entry of terrorists and their weapons into the United States;

Whereas, the Laredo Chamber recognizes that the traditional mission of the United States Border Patrol has always been the detection and prevention of the illegal entry of aliens and smuggling of illegal contraband into the United States anywhere other than a designated port-of-entry;

Whereas, the Laredo Chamber of Commerce has always maintained open lines of communication with federal agencies working on the border area, and has, likewise, received support and cooperation from stated agencies;

Whereas, the U.S. Border Patrol responds unselfishly when requested to provide added security for the citizenry of the city of Laredo and County of Webb;

Whereas, agents of the Border Patrol assigned to the Laredo sector constitute part of the local population and support and participate in civic, educational, and social activities;

And whereas, Chief Patrol Agent Carlos X. Carrillo, currently assigned to the command of the Laredo sector of the U.S. Border Patrol, exemplifies the dedication and commitment of the U.S. Border Patrol agents to the service and the community,

Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Board of Directors of the Laredo Chamber of Commerce that it fully supports the work and performance of Chief Carrillo and the agents of the U.S. Border Patrol Laredo Sector; and that it rebukes accusations made by individuals about the loyalty and level of commitment of Chief Carrillo to the mission of the service and the united States of America.

Approved on this _______ day of August of 2007.
